One model of personality structure includes the Id, Ego and Superego. Sigmund Freud developed this theory to describe personality functioning. “The Id is best”, yells the WWE wrestler. “The Superego rules” says Spock as he is calmly transported and Scottie “beams him up” to the Enterprise. “The Ego will prevail” states the mediation judge, as they negotiate a highly conflicted divorce case. As one can see by the examples above, the Id, Ego and Superego each have a role to play in life. This issue perhaps is not which personality structure is best, but rather when one should emphasize the implementation of a particular ego state at the most appropriate time.
